The Bikeability Scotland Instructor award provides an SCQF accredited certificate to enable you to plan and deliver Bikeability Scotland levels 1 and 2, supporting primary-age children to develop life skills. To become a Bikeability Scotland Instructor, you must be a minimum of 16 years old or 18 if delivering independently.
More than 1,000 primary schools deliver Bikeability Scotland training each year, with training supervised by local authority coordinators.
Delivering Bikeability is hugely rewarding, while the training delivers significant and sustained impact on pupils’ knowledge and road safety, and improved health and wellbeing through increased cycling frequency
The Bikeability Scotland Instructor Award is aimed at anyone age 16 plus who can cycle confidently and would like to develop and apply skills in group leadership and instruction by supporting local schools to deliver the training.
This is a 10 hour course which includes three-hours of self supported learning and seven hours of practical training time which is delivered over a minimum of two sessions.
In some areas you may receive mentoring and supervision from a Cycle Trainer while you gain experience.
Once qualified, a Bikeability on-road training course typically takes 6 hours to deliver, often spread across a four week block. Bikeability is delivered in curricular time, under local operating procedures.
The Bikeability Scotland Instructor Award is externally quality assured by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and are credit rated and levelled on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at level 5 and gain 1 credit point when you complete the question paper after the practical course.
