About Girls’ Brigade in Scotland

The Girls’ Brigade in Scotland (GBS) is a lively, vibrant, inclusive organisation for girls and young women. We are a volunteer led uniformed organisation which was founded on Christian principles over 120 years ago but which remain our bedrock today. Open to girls of all faiths or none, and supported by c.1,500 adult volunteers, we operate through 230 companies serving over 9,000 members in local communities throughout Scotland. All GB companies are affiliated to local churches and are an integral part of both church and local community.

Our three youth sections (Explorer: P1-3; Junior: P4-7; Brigader: S1-6) follow a balanced, age appropriate programme offering educational, service, spiritual and physical elements, recognising our holistic approach and providing the opportunity for girls to learn new skills in a fun, safe and secure environment.

Why this award?

This is the highest award in The Girls' Brigade with girls all over the world working towards gaining their Queen's Award.
Participating in the Award demonstrates leadership, teamwork, responsibility, knowledge, discipline, research skills, self-motivation and a huge amount of dedication.
The Award encourages a personal Christian commitment, while respecting other faiths.

Who is it for?

Girls and young women aged 16-25 are able to achieve their Queen’s Award through participating in and completing a programme of seven modules, a true achievement.

What time commitment is required?

The Queen’s Award is designed to be a challenging programme and is gained through active participation in modules which must be completed over at least a two-year period.

Is the award externally accredited?

No, but internally assessed and validated
