Duke of Edinburgh’s Award D of E Leadership Programme

Why this award?

The programme uses specific courses from the DofE’s Modular Training Framework to introduce topics such as guiding principles, theory of group and teamwork, negotiation, planning skills and much more. It is a programme that is equally beneficial to young people by developing skills and to schools and youth centres by building capacity and focusing on the importance of leadership. The course has four core modules:  Introduction to the DofE  Team work/leadership skills  Managing a DofE group  Practical DofE leadership

Who is it for?

This particular programme is aimed at current DofE participants and Award holders aged 16 and over who wish to develop leadership skills, although it is also available to young people not undertaking a DofE programme.

What time commitment is required?

There are four modules available to young people. Delivery of the modules is flexible and can be determined by the young people and their DofE Leader/Tutor.

Each module, and its associated learning outcomes, can be delivered over two to three days, as part of a 12 month programme or as a residential opportunity. It is important to remember that people learn in many different ways and a mixture of learning styles should be considered. Each module is approximately 12 hours in duration except the Practical DofE Leadership module which is approximately 17 hours.

Is the award externally accredited?

The full learning programme has been credit rated at SCQF level 5. In additional each module has been individually credit rated to ensure that if young people are unable to complete the full programme they are still recognised for their achievements.
