Offering SCQF SL4 gives your students opportunities to demonstrate basic skills and experiences in leadership. It works on personal development, and helps build employability skills through sports leadership. The qualification builds character and develops desirable traits and behaviours. This may lead to improvement in the effectiveness of leadership and management in your school/college. Offering SCQF SL4 allows you to create students that: • Are more confident and self-assured • Can develop personal qualities such as resilience, respect and integrity • Have improved community awareness • Have experienced work through volunteering (leadership hours).
What does SCQF SL4 allow the learner to do? SCQF SL4 is a nationally recognised qualification that enables successful learners to assist in leading purposeful and enjoyable sport/physical activity, under direct supervision.
What skills and behaviours are focussed on? Students will take part in practical learning which allows them to continually build on their skills and knowledge through practice - building resilience. The skills can be applied and built on through leading sport/physical activities in an extra-curricular setting.
Significant Aspects of Learning for Sports Leadership: There are a number of skills and attributes that support learning through the SCQF SL4: • Cognitive Skills – Problem solving, processing information, decision making, creativity, innovation, applying learning in new and unfamiliar activity contexts • Personal Qualities – Confidence, leadership, teamwork, motivation, resilience, increased self-esteem, encourage learning and confidence in others.
The SCQF Level 4 Award in Sports Leadership provides the ideal starting point for learners aged 12 years and over who wish to develop their leadership skills, whilst under the direct supervision of their Tutor/Assessor or other suitably qualified adult.
The syllabus is designed to develop generic leadership skills that can be applied to a variety of sports and/or recreational situations as well as contributing to the personal development of the learner.
The SCQF Level 4 Award in Sports Leadership is a practical qualification in which learners must demonstrate their ability to lead others in simple sport/activity.
How long will it take to deliver?
32 hours You can easily fit it into 1 academic year with 1 hour per week.
How much work will learners need to do on top of this?
24 hours. This includes 1 hour demonstration of leadership
By completing the L4 in Sports Leadership learners will gain 7 SCQF credit points
